Goose Creek, KY

Goose Creek is a home rule-class city in northeastern Jefferson County, about 11 miles northeast of downtown Louisville. The 2020 census counted 303 residents. It is bordered by Barbourmeade, Broeck Pointe, Murray Hill, and consolidated Louisville-Jefferson County, so the city sits in a suburban corner of the county while retaining its own municipal name. The creek that gives Goose Creek its name runs about a mile west of the city limits, flowing northwest for roughly four miles to the Ohio River.

Local lore gives two possibilities for the name: early settlers may have noticed wild geese along the water, or the name may honor William Goose, a wagon maker who settled in the area late in the eighteenth century. That small uncertainty is part of the place's character. Goose Creek is close enough to Louisville for the larger metro to frame everyday travel, but its story still hangs on the creek, the older settlement pattern, and the Ohio River shaping the wider landscape. It is a compact city with a natural feature just outside its boundary and a history rooted in the roads and waterways of northeastern Jefferson County.
