Goulding, FL

Goulding is a compact Escambia County census-designated place just north of Pensacola, with 3,392 residents in the 2020 census. Its small footprint—about 1.2 square miles, all land—makes it easy to miss as a separate place, especially because the Pensacola urban area surrounds it. But Goulding has its own history. The community grew around the L&N railroad and the Goulding fertilizer works, whose shipments gave the area a station and a reason to exist beyond being a northern extension of town.

The railroad connection is the local detail worth keeping. Early Pensacola communities often grew around depots, schools, stores, and timber traffic, and Goulding’s station sat only a few miles north of central Pensacola. The name belonged to the Goulding family and the fertilizer business, and the community’s old location along North Palafox still ties it to that industrial corridor. Today, Goulding is mostly encountered through streets, homes, schools, and Pensacola errands, but the old depot story changes the view. This is not a random piece of suburbia; it is a former rail community folded into the city’s northern edge.
