Grabill, IN

Grabill is an Allen County town in Cedar Creek Township, northeast of Fort Wayne. The 2020 census counted 1,112 residents. East Allen County Schools serve the area, and the town has two community parks plus an Allen County Public Library branch. Antique shops, Amish farms, and farm roads give Grabill a different daily rhythm from Fort Wayne, even as the city’s growth and services sit within the same northern Allen County map.

Grabill began when the Wabash Railroad was extended through Cedar Creek Township. The town was platted on February 15, 1902, a post office opened that year, and the place was named for first postmaster Joseph A. Grabill. The railroad station brought a store, bank, grain business, and other early services, then the town incorporated in 1912. The library’s train-station-themed children’s area is a small modern nod to that origin. Grabill still works as a town built around a rail line, with schools, parks, farm traffic, and a rural market area sharing the same streets.
