About Grand Meadow

Grand Meadow is a Mower County city on Minnesota Highway 16, with highway links west to Dexter and east to Spring Valley and the I-90 corridor. The city was platted in 1870 on the boundary between Grand Meadow and Frankford townships and took its name from the open prairie around the original town site. Farm roads, small creeks draining toward the Root River, and the highway still give the place its basic shape.

The most unmistakable building in town is Grand Meadow Public School's five-dome K-12 campus. Voters approved a 1998 bond, construction followed, and the domes opened in 2002 with classrooms, cafeteria, gym, auditorium, and offices under one unusual roofline. The Grand Meadow GAR Hall, one of Minnesota's remaining Grand Army of the Republic halls, adds an older layer, and the Grand Meadow Heritage Center keeps the township school story nearby. Grand Meadow is a small southern Minnesota city with a big school roof, a highway through the fields, and civic routines that still gather around the school, parks, and old veterans' hall.
