Grand View, ID

Grand View is an Owyhee County city on the south side of the Snake River, about twenty-five miles southwest of Mountain Home. Its story begins with crossings: Dorsey Ferry moved from the Bruneau River to the Snake, and a small settlement grew around the landing. Irrigation promoters were working in the valley by the late nineteenth century, while prospectors filed placer-mining claims along the river in 1892. The Grand View post office opened in 1888, giving the community a fixed name as farms, ferries, and river traffic gathered around it.

Grand View sits among irrigated fields of alfalfa, corn, sugar beets, and other crops, with high desert and public land beyond the farmland. The Snake River forms the city's northern edge, and the Rio Lindo boat ramp and Riverside Park connect the town to the water. The Bruneau River irrigation story continues through the Grand View Irrigation District and nearby CJ Strike Reservoir. Bruneau-Grand View Joint School District 365 serves the area. Grand View's local map still reads as a meeting point between river crossings, irrigation works, and the open Idaho landscape.
