About Grand View-on-Hudson

Grand View-on-Hudson is a Rockland County village on the west bank of the Hudson, south of the Tappan Zee bridge and between the river and the Palisades. Its nineteenth-century identity was tied to red sandstone quarries and the railroad, while the Wayside Chapel began as a Sunday-school project in 1867. The village incorporated in 1918 and took its name from the broad river and Palisades views. There is still an old stone-and-chapel feel to the map, with River Road following the water and the Hudson doing the local orientation.
