Grandview, IN

Grandview was laid out in 1851 along the Ohio River, and its name came from the view across the water. The town occupies river mile 742 in Spencer County, upstream from Rockport and downstream from Lewisport, Kentucky. The 2020 census counted 698 residents. Its location puts a river landing, the Indiana–Kentucky border corridor, and the Rockport Generating Station’s industrial landscape in the same regional picture. Before 1943 Grandview had its own high school; students now belong to South Spencer County School Corporation.

Grandview’s local map is organized around the river and a small group of town parks. Schroeder Park, also called Y-Pond Park, has fishing and a playground, while City Park adds a softball field, basketball court, playground, and disc golf. The town also keeps a Veterans Memorial at its park on Eighth Street. The Spencer County Public Library operates a Grandview branch, giving residents a local library stop even though the school corporation’s campuses and district office are in Rockport. Grandview is a small river town whose current civic routines stretch between its own parks and the neighboring county centers.
