About Grass Lake

Grass Lake is a Jackson County village with two preserved pieces of its past: the 1887 stone railroad depot and the Coe House Museum, a nineteenth-century home run by the historical society. The depot was designed by Spier and Rohns, the same architects behind Ann Arbor’s station, and built with stone from the same quarry. The village sits just south of I-94 in Grass Lake Township, but the old depot still tells you why this place grew where it did. Grass Lake is a Michigan railroad village whose most useful introductions are a stone station and a house full of local memory.
