About Gray Court
Gray Court sits in Laurens County along the Highway 14 corridor between Fountain Inn and Laurens, with I-385 making Greenville's orbit feel close without turning town into suburb. It began as Dorrohville, picked up the Gray Court name after the railroad arrived in 1886, and incorporated in 1899. That rail-era beginning still gives the place a clear center: Main Street, older homes, churches, and the small businesses that line the road through town. Owings is about a mile north, and the two communities' names remain joined at Gray Court-Owings School, whose historic campus is listed on the National Register.
These days, the town's texture comes from practical civic life. City Hall handles permits, utilities, meetings, and local notices; Gray Court Community Park gives the town a place for fireworks and gatherings, while the school grounds keep the older Gray Court-Owings story visible. Highway 14 and I-385 bring daily traffic, but the town still feels like a small Laurens County crossroads, with a mix of long-established families, newer households, and businesses tied to the road network.
