About Gray
Gray grew where George Gray laid out a town along the East Branch of the West Nishnabotna River in 1881 and the Northwestern Railroad arrived the next year. Gray lies eight miles north of Audubon on Highway 71, then two miles west on F16. The river corridor and the roads through the surrounding farm country keep the city connected to the county seat, while Audubon Community Schools serve area students. Gray's compact setting still shows how a watercourse, a rail line, and a county road could combine to form an Iowa town.
