Great Notch, NJ

Tucked into the eastern corner of Little Falls, Great Notch is a quiet, leafy neighborhood of about 3,300 residents set against the ridge of the Watchung Mountains. The area takes its name from the natural mountain gap that cuts through the hills, giving the streets a scenic backdrop and a distinctly tucked-away feel. Because it sits right along the borders of Upper Montclair and Clifton, residents enjoy easy access to nearby downtown shops and dining, while parts of Montclair State University reach right into the neighborhood. Getting around the region from Great Notch is simple and convenient. While the tiny neighborhood rail platform closed years ago, commuters have excellent alternatives practically in their backyard. Most locals head to the modern Montclair State University station or the Little Falls station, both just a few minutes away, for direct train service into Midtown Manhattan. With quick connections to Route 46 and Route 3 as well, it makes a practical, welcoming home base for anyone looking for quiet suburban living within easy reach of New York City.
