Green Valley, IL

Green Valley is a village in Tazewell County, south of Pekin near the county line on Illinois Route 29. The village sits inside the Peoria-Pekin metropolitan area, so its setting works at two scales: a small incorporated place on the highway and a rural county tied to the Illinois River cities. Tazewell County was organized in 1827, and 78 percent of its land is farmland. That agricultural base is the background to Green Valley's flat, road-connected landscape and to the wider network of farm communities around it.

Green Valley was incorporated in 1916 and had 630 residents at the 2020 census. The village's school district is Midwest Central Community Unit School District 191, whose schools and district office are in the Manito area. Local ties also show up through the Green Valley Purple Ribbons & Toilers 4-H clubs, which give young people a recurring place to meet and work on projects.
