About Greenfields

Greenfields sits just west of Reading, at the point where Tulpehocken Creek meets the Schuylkill River. That makes its location the whole story: a small Berks County community on the edge of Reading, with the creek carrying a much older transportation and settlement history into the river. Tulpehocken was once an important route for mills and the Union Canal, and Reading’s canals later connected this confluence with the Susquehanna and Delaware systems. Greenfields is now part of Bern Township, but its map still points toward the water. If you are trying to place it, think river meeting, city edge, and the western approach to Reading all in one compact spot.
