Greenville CDP (Westchester County), NY

Greenville is the Census Bureau name for the southern Westchester community more commonly called Edgemont. It lies in unincorporated Greenburgh, immediately west of the Village of Scarsdale. Scarsdale mailing addresses cover the area, but residents receive town services from Greenburgh and do not live inside the village. Central Park Avenue forms the busy commercial spine, while Ardsley Road crosses east-west through the residential hills. A turn off either corridor quickly reaches winding streets, rocky wooded lots, stone walls, and a mix of Tudor, Colonial, midcentury, and newer houses. That sharp change from regional shopping road to residential side street is one of the area's defining features.

The Edgemont Union Free School District gives the community its clearest shared identity. It is the only school district located entirely within unincorporated Greenburgh and is governed by its own elected board. Children attend Greenville or Seely Place elementary schools before moving to Edgemont Junior-Senior High School; all three campuses carry Scarsdale postal addresses. Greenville Elementary marked its seventy-fifth year in 2026. School elections, concerts, sports, and board meetings pull residents together in a place without a village hall or incorporated government of its own.

The Nature Center at Greenburgh provides the area's largest piece of shared open space. Its 33 acres off Central Park Avenue include woodland trails, a vernal pond, native meadow, gardens, a playground, and live-animal exhibits. The former Hall Estate became the nature center in 1975, and a new welcome center and trail improvements opened in 2026. Bee-Line Routes 20 and 21 run along Central Park Avenue toward White Plains and the Bronx, while Route 66 follows Ardsley Road between the Rivertowns and New Rochelle. Many rail commuters use nearby Scarsdale station. Greenville therefore operates on two scales at once: a school-centered community tucked into leafy hills and a well-connected inner suburb crossed by some of southern Westchester's busiest routes.
