About Greenville

Set along the southern edge of the Missouri Ozarks, Greenville is a quiet, close-knit town that serves as the county seat of Wayne County. With around 450 residents, it offers a peaceful rural lifestyle surrounded by heavily forested hills and the St. Francis River. Sitting right beside the eastern shores of Lake Wappapello, it gives locals immediate access to great boating, fishing, and scenic waterfront trails.

The town moved a couple of miles north in the 1940s when the reservoir was created, and the original townsite is now a popular park and campground with walking trails and historical markers. Local families send their kids to the Greenville R-2 School District, which serves as a central hub for the surrounding rural area. Positioned right along U.S. Highway 67, Greenville offers plenty of privacy while keeping residents connected to larger shopping, dining, and healthcare options down in Poplar Bluff.
