Greenwood, FL

Greenwood sits in North Jackson County, ten miles from the county seat of Marianna, with a local map shaped by Fort Road, Greenwood Community Park, and the long-running Pender's Store. The town dates to 1824 and incorporated in 1927. Its older commercial footprint included doctors, two cotton gins, a peanut mill, a railroad, general stores, and a theatrical group that staged plays in the 1880s. Fort Road still carries the name of the route that once ran from a fort on the Apalachicola River toward Pensacola.

Pender's Store was built in 1869 and remains operated by the Pender family, with original shelves and heart-pine floors still in place. Across from it, Town Hall includes a former Pure Oil service station moved there in 1998, while the town's park includes the old gymnasium area acquired around 1975. The town calendar posts community events, and the park gives those notices a physical place. The local read is a Florida Panhandle town where an old general store, repurposed civic buildings, and a shared park sit inside a route-and-plantation history.
