Trains shaped Griffith from day one, and they are still a huge part of everyday life here. Dozens of freight trains roll through town each day along tracks that once connected several major railroad lines near Broad and Main streets. Griffith offers a mix of housing styles across distinct pockets. South of Main Street, you will find compact historic homes on cozy lots, while the neighborhoods to the north around Franklin Fields feature classic mid-century ranches with larger yards. Because the rail lines crisscross the area, proximity to train traffic can change drastically from one street to the next. When touring homes, visit at different times of day to listen for train horns from the backyard.
