Groveland, FL

Groveland sits roughly 30 miles west of Orlando, right where Central Florida's suburban energy meets quiet, rolling countryside. The area got its start in the 1890s as a timber and turpentine settlement called Taylorville, founded by the Taylor family alongside African American laborers. In 1922, locals renamed it Groveland to celebrate the flourishing citrus industry. The town also carries a significant chapter in civil rights history. In 1949, four young Black men known as the Groveland Four were wrongfully accused of a crime in Lake County. Following decades of community advocacy, the State of Florida granted full pardons in 2019, and a circuit court formally dismissed the charges and cleared their names in 2021, marking an essential step in honoring the truth.

Getting around from Groveland is straightforward, with State Roads 50, 33, and 19 all meeting in town, along with easy access to the Florida Turnpike. That connectivity brings modern convenience, distribution jobs, and retail to western Lake County while keeping commutes into Clermont and Orlando manageable. Historic downtown retains a relaxed, small-town feel. Activity naturally centers on Lake David, where recent streetscape improvements have added pedestrian-friendly sidewalks, updated shoreline paths, and convenient parking near City Hall, local eateries, and community event lawns.
