D.W. Grover promoted his 1887 town as the place where the tide lands and rails meet. That idea became literal more than a century later: Amtrak service began at the city's Grand Avenue station in 1996, a short walk from the ocean. Residents had already voted in 1992 to change the name from Grover City to Grover Beach, emphasizing the shoreline that the founder hoped would shape the community. West Grand Avenue now concentrates several practical connections. At Highway 1, the multimodal station provides bicycle storage, electric-vehicle charging, long-term Amtrak parking, Pacific Surfliner stops, and connecting buses. Farther west, a public lot, restrooms, and boardwalk provide pedestrian access to Pismo State Beach; vehicles can also enter the sand at the end of Grand Avenue. State Parks lists swimming, surfing, surf fishing, hiking, camping, and birdwatching, with western monarch butterflies gathering seasonally at the nearby grove from November through February.

That coast-and-rail corridor sits within a city of just 2.31 square miles. Its 2020-2024 housing figures show an almost even tenure split, with 51 percent owner occupancy. The median owner-occupied value was $727,500, monthly mortgage costs were $2,406, and median gross rent was $2,061. Regional Transit Authority Route 28 starts at Ramona Garden Park and runs hourly, seven days a week, through Grover Beach, Oceano, and Arroyo Grande. Within the city, 16th Street Park has picnic areas, a playground, and softball fields; Mentone Basin Park has pickleball and basketball courts; and the South County Skate Park sits on Ramona Avenue. Grover Beach's dated 2026 calendar adds free Sunday summer concerts at Ramona Garden Park, outdoor movie nights, a May community bicycle ride, and a September 5K beginning at the beach plaza.
