Guffey, CO

Guffey is a Park County CDP that began as Freshwater, a late-nineteenth-century mining camp formed after prospectors found placer gold in Freshwater Gulch. Today the local cluster includes a general store and saloon, restaurant, elementary school, community center, library, and small museum. Guffey Community Charter School, operating since 1996, grew from the need for local control in a mountain settlement more than an hour from its district offices.
