About Gunnison

Gunnison is a home-rule city and the county seat of Gunnison County, Colorado, situated in the Rocky Mountains along the Taylor River. Named after Army Officer John W. Gunnison, who surveyed the area in 1853, the college town of approximately 6,800 is home to Western Colorado University. The community lies just east of the Blue Mesa Reservoir, the state's largest body of water, and is connected to Crested Butte via local bus service.
