Guy, AR

Guy is a northern Faulkner County city whose story starts around Cadron Creek and the farms along it. T. J. Rowlett settled near the creek in 1848; Jacob Hartwick built a grist mill and the first dam there in 1868, turning water into a small piece of local industry. The post office moved from nearby Ruray to Guy in 1890, and the store that housed it helped give the settlement a fixed name. Cotton, corn, and the local gin kept the rural economy moving, while the town's 1924 business-district fire erased most of the early commercial center.

The rebuilt community carried some of its civic history forward. Guy's school districts came together in 1898 and later joined with neighboring districts to form Guy-Perkins; the WPA added school and civic buildings in the 1930s, including a home economics building and gym that were still in use in 2020. Guy incorporated as a second-class city in 1966. Today Highway 25 leads northeast toward Quitman and southwest toward Greenbrier, while Cadron Creek is more associated with fishing and hunting than mills. The school district remains one of the clearest ways to read Guy's place on the map.
