About Hadar

Hadar holds the title of the oldest town in Pierce County, first settled in the 1860s by German families moving west from Wisconsin. Local lore says the founders argued so fiercely over where to build that they planted a wooden pole marked "HADER," a German word for a quarrel. The spelling was eventually updated to Hadar, giving this little village one of the most entertaining origin stories in northeast Nebraska.
