About Hague
Hague was laid out in 1902 as the railroad reached Emmons County and took its name from The Hague in the Netherlands. German-Russian settlers converged here after nearby Selz and Elsaas communities were displaced by the Milwaukee line. St. Mary's Church, rebuilt after a 1929 fire, is a Romanesque Revival landmark tied to the area's ethnic and religious history; Old St. Mary's Cemetery preserves wrought-iron crosses. Strasburg Public School District serves the community, and the Emmons County Catholic parish still lists St. Mary's in Hague for regular worship. Rail, church, cemetery, and school remain the clearest local reference points.
