About Haines
Haines is a census-designated community in the northern part of the Alaska Panhandle, serving as the gateway to Chilkat Pass and Glacier Bay National Park. Originally called Deishú, meaning "end of the trail," by the Tlingit people, the settlement grew as a supply depot for the historic Dalton Trail along the Chilkat River. Today, the town is a cultural center hosting the Southeast Alaska State Fair, a major annual beer festival, and the Haines Borough Public Library.
