Half Moon Bay sits tucked between the Santa Cruz Mountains and the Pacific, giving it the feel of a relaxed coastal farm town right on the doorstep of the Bay Area. The historic downtown sits slightly inland along Main Street, lined with nineteenth-century storefronts, local cafes, and leafy side streets. A few blocks west, the paved Coastside Trail stretches along the bluffs above local beaches, making it a favorite spot for running, dog walking, and ocean sunsets. In October, the annual Art and Pumpkin Festival transforms downtown with giant pumpkin weigh-offs and heavy festival traffic. Just up the road in neighboring Princeton, Pillar Point Harbor and the surf break at Mavericks provide fresh seafood right off the docks and scenic coastal walking paths.

Commuting across the hill to Silicon Valley or San Francisco takes careful timing. Highway 92 toward San Mateo and Highway 1 toward Pacifica are the only direct routes out, so a test drive during peak morning and evening rush hours is a smart step before moving. Local SamTrans buses provide transit into San Mateo and neighboring coastal towns, but most residents depend on their cars for everyday errands. Families are served by the Cabrillo Unified School District.
