Haliimaile, HI

Haliimaile is a Maui County CDP on the lower slopes of Haleakala in Upcountry Maui, surrounded by pineapple fields and rolling hills. The village sits between Makawao, Pukalani, and the central Maui plain, with Haliimaile Road and small residential streets tying the plantation settlement to farms and nearby towns. Its setting is rural, but its name carries a strong agricultural history. Old camp buildings and farm lanes still help connect the present village to that earlier working landscape.

Plantation worker housing began taking shape in the 1920s, and a camp store opened in 1925 as a grocery, butcher shop, fish market, post office, and gathering place. The plantation merged into Maui Pineapple Company in 1962; former camp homes were subdivided and sold in 1965. Pineapple fields returned to local operation in 2010. Haliimaile General Store, Maui Pineapple Store, farm tours, glassblowing, and small food businesses now share the hills with working agriculture. Haliimaile feels rooted in a plantation past while its present-day energy comes from growers, makers, and neighbors.
