About Hamilton

Hamilton is a Loudoun Valley town six miles west of Leesburg, near the western base of Catoctin Mountain. The 2020 census counted 619 residents. Quakers helped establish the settlement known as Harmony, and the town grew from that early Loudoun network of mills, farms, and crossroads. Catoctin Mountain rises along the western edge, while Route 7 and the roads into Leesburg keep Hamilton connected to the county’s larger work-and-shopping orbit.

Hamilton has a layered local history for such a small place. The town was incorporated in the nineteenth century, and its story includes a long-standing African American community alongside the older Quaker and farm-settlement history. Today the street grid, churches, small businesses, and valley views make the town feel separate from Leesburg even though the distance is short. Hamilton is one of those Loudoun places where the mountain, the old settlement name, and the county road network stay visible in the same glance. The town keeps that valley setting in view every day.
