About Hampton
Hampton is a village and census-designated place in Reading Township, gathered around the meeting of PA 94 and PA 394 in eastern Adams County. Daniel Deardorff surveyed the village in 1814 at Dr. John B. Arnold's request, and David Albert completed the first property that same year. The road pattern still matters: PA 94 runs about 21 miles north to Carlisle and 10 miles south to Hanover, while PA 394 reaches Hampton from the west through the county's farm country. Reading Township's plan treats Hampton as its historic village center, with homes, limited commercial uses, institutions, and a street pattern worth retaining. Students attend Bermudian Springs schools. Hampton is a compact crossroads inside a much larger rural township.
