Hana, HI

Located on the lush eastern coast of Maui, Hāna is a quiet, close-knit town of fewer than a thousand residents. It is reached by the famous Road to Hāna, a winding 52-mile drive through rainforests and waterfalls that keeps this part of the island peaceful and secluded. Living here means being surrounded by dramatic volcanic coastlines, black sand beaches at Waiʻānapanapa State Park, and a rich Hawaiian heritage that is still very much alive today.

Neighborhood markets and fruit stands cover immediate grocery needs, though residents regularly make the two-hour drive into Kahului for major shopping and specialized medical appointments. With its mix of family farms, coastal trails, and strong community roots, Hāna offers a truly remote and relaxed island lifestyle.
