About Harmony
Harmony sits at the junction of U.S. 21 and NC 901 in northern Iredell County, a crossroads that still organizes the town’s shape. Its history begins with Harmony Hill Camp Meeting, first held in 1846 on the grounds now occupied by Harmony Elementary. The two-week revival became a social gathering as well as a religious one, and the October meeting continues today. Harmony incorporated in 1927, after the area’s farm school and older camp-meeting traditions had already given it a community center.
Modern local life still runs through those institutions and the highway. The town has a public library, family park, community center, elementary school, post office, fire department, businesses, and a manufacturing plant. The Wild Goose Festival brings faith, justice, music, and art to Harmony each September, while the town’s Fourth of July breakfast, road market, and Christmas parade fill out the annual calendar. The result is a rural Iredell town where farming, civic services, a historic meeting ground, and recurring gatherings all sit along a pair of roads.
