Harmony, RI

Harmony is a village and census-designated place along U.S. Route 44 in Glocester, northwestern Rhode Island. The 2020 census counted 1,036 residents. It is one of the town’s historic villages, shaped by the nineteenth-century mills and trading activity that grew along Putnam Pike. Harmony Chapel and Cemetery gives the village a recognizable center; the chapel dates to about 1830, and the cemetery later opened for community burials. The road is still the basic organizing line, with houses, shops, restaurants, and side roads spreading into the wooded uplands around it.

Life in Harmony is tied to the wider Glocester pattern. Harmony Public Library serves the village, while town history and local businesses keep the route from feeling like a mere pass-through. The Glocester Business Association promotes shops, restaurants, and events across the town, and nearby land-trust properties and state forests put ponds and trails within the same northwestern Rhode Island day. Providence is the regional city to the east, but Harmony’s everyday map is smaller: Route 44, the chapel and cemetery, the library, local storefronts, and the old mill-country landscape that still gives the village its shape.
