About Harris
Harris is a Chisago County city that began as a settlement in 1870, was platted in 1873, and incorporated as a village in 1884. The post office opened in 1874, and the Northern Pacific Railroad station gave the early town a route for people and freight. The city was named for Philip S. Harris, an officer of the St. Paul and Duluth Railroad Company. Interstate 35 now draws the modern line through the area, but the old railroad story still gives Harris its shape. Harris is an east-central Minnesota place with a rail-era name and a highway running through the newer map.
