Harrisburg, AR

Harrisburg is Poinsett County's seat on Crowley's Ridge, twenty miles south of Jonesboro. The Harris family settled the area before 1830, and the town became the county seat in 1856; the railroad arrived in 1882, followed by incorporation in 1883. The 1918 courthouse still sits at the center of county government, while rice, cotton, wheat, soybeans, and forest products connect the city to the surrounding agricultural country. Lawrence Reddmann Memorial Park, the Harrisburg schools, and the Modern News, Arkansas's oldest established weekly, give the small Arkansas city a present-day civic map. Harrisburg is a county-seat town on a wooded ridge with farm roads running out in every direction.
