Haskins, OH

Haskins is a Wood County village that took shape when the railroad reached the flat farm country of northwestern Ohio. A post office opened in 1861, the village was platted in 1862, and it incorporated in 1868. The 2020 census counted 1,245 residents. Those dates give Haskins its basic outline: a rail settlement that grew into a small village without losing the rural landscape around it.

Today, Haskins sits within the Toledo-Bowling Green orbit and sends students to the Otsego Local School District. Village streets, farm roads, and the old railroad pattern still do most of the storytelling. The old pattern remains easy to see. There is no grand civic drama required to make the place interesting; Haskins is a community built from the practical sequence of a post office, a rail line, a village boundary, and the families who stayed. It has the scale of a small Ohio village, but the history starts with a much bigger change: the tracks arriving in the fields.
