Hassell, NC

With around 50 residents, Hassell is one of the smallest communities in Martin County. The town sits along NC 142 between Williamston and Tarboro, where it first grew in the 1890s as a railroad depot and marketplace for nearby farmers. Named after local educator and minister Sylvester Hassell, it remains a quiet agricultural crossroads defined by open fields and a relaxed, rural pace.
