About Haverstraw
Haverstraw is a Rockland County village on the west bank of the Hudson River, north of Nyack and across from Westchester County. It incorporated in 1854, but the area has a much longer story, beginning with Native communities and Dutch settlement in the Hudson Valley. The river is central to how Haverstraw feels, with older neighborhoods, steep hills, and views across Haverstraw Bay. The village also has a working-class industrial past, especially through the brickmaking industry that once shaped this part of Rockland County.
