Hawi is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in the North Kohala district of the Island of Hawaii. Historically significant as the birthplace of King Kamehameha I and containing the ancient Mo'okini Heiau, the tropical community of approximately 2,070 is served by the Hawaii Department of Education for public primary and secondary education.
