Hawk Springs, WY

Hawk Springs is a Census-designated place in Goshen County, Wyoming. The 2020 Census lists 47 residents, 32 housing units, and 4,411,431 square meters of land. The name reaches back to a spring: a Wyoming History account says it referred to a gentle spring where a falcon stood, while another local explanation connected it to a saloonkeeper called Black Hawk. Hawk Springs Reservoir covers the springs, giving the place a mapped water setting alongside the county’s irrigation landscape.

The place also entered Wyoming’s postal record. Wyoming Places records that on August 16, 1928, the location and name of the Hagie Post Office in Goshen County changed to Hawk Springs. Goshen County’s history describes irrigation from Horse Creek and crops including wheat, dry beans, barley, corn, potatoes, hay, sunflowers, and sugar beets. Wyoming State Parks’ brochure places Hawk Springs State Park at the reservoir, giving the same water feature a present-day recreation use. Hawk Springs’s small CDP boundary joins a named spring, reservoir, postal history, and agricultural work.
