Hazel Dell, WA

A 79-acre working farm, rather than a town hall, is one of Hazel Dell's clearest civic landmarks. The community is an unincorporated urban area north of Vancouver, so Clark County manages many of its shared spaces. The 78th Street Heritage Farm began as the county poor farm in the 1870s, later became a Washington State University research farm, and returned to county management in 2008. WSU Extension still operates agricultural education, 4-H, food preservation, nutrition, and business-development programs there, and 88 community garden plots occupy part of the property. In 2026, the county sought a design for the site's first casual-access trail, planned to connect Northeast 78th and 68th streets with Hazel Dell Community Park while separating visitors from active farm work. County parks divide recreation among distinct sites.

The 20-acre Hazel Dell Community Park has wooded paths, playground equipment, picnic shelters, and gathering space; access work scheduled for summer and fall 2026 included a paved parking area and paths meeting accessibility standards. The 20-acre Luke Jensen Sports Park concentrates league activity on three synthetic multiuse fields, two grass baseball fields, batting cages, play areas, and a 2,200-square-foot community room overlooking the fields. Transportation follows two commercial corridors. As of July 2026, C-TRAN Route 31 ran along Hazel Dell Avenue between the 99th Street Transit Center and downtown Vancouver, while Route 71 used Highway 99 to reach the Vancouver waterfront. The nine-mile Highway 99 branch of The Vine was under construction in 2026 and 2027 and was planned to replace Route 71 and neighboring Route 19.
