About Hazel Green

Hazel Green is a Grant County village mostly contained within the larger Town of Hazel Green, in Wisconsin's southwest corner. The area was settled during the lead rush, when it was known as Hardscrabble, and the name Hazel Green arrived with the post office in 1838. The village also sits near Wisconsin's Point of Beginning: Lucius Lyon's 1831 survey just south of town set the reference point used to describe the state's land. Hazel Green Town Hall, built in 1891 with an opera-house auditorium, still marks the village's civic history. Prairie Corners and Sinsinawa extend the surrounding town beyond the village line.
