About Hazleton

Hazleton is a quiet northeast Iowa town of about 700 people in Buchanan County, just a few minutes south of Oelwein. It got its start in a hazelnut grove back in the 1850s, but it has a quirky past: when the railroad was built a mile away in 1873, the residents literally picked up their houses and shops and moved the entire town over to the tracks. Today, Hazleton offers a relaxed, close-knit setting close to outdoor spots like Fontana Park, with local students attending the Oelwein Community School District.
