Hearne, TX

Hearne is a Robertson County city in the Bryan–College Station metropolitan area, built where two railroad lines met and turned a small settlement into a regional cotton center. The 2020 census counted 4,544 residents. The Hearne family promoted rail lines through the area, and the Houston and Texas Central reached the new depot in 1868. The International-Great Northern followed with an east-west line, the two routes crossed in town, and Hearne incorporated in 1871. The railroad geometry still gives the street grid its shape and the city's place in the surrounding farm country.

The restored Hearne Depot now tells that railroad story, while Hearne High School and Hearne Independent School District supply the everyday school center. Hearne Municipal Airport adds general-aviation service, and the old rail corridors still point toward Bryan–College Station and the Robertson County countryside. A World War II prisoner-of-war camp once stood just west of the city limits, another layer in the town's working history.
