Helper, UT

Tucked along the Price River against the backdrop of the Book Cliffs, Helper is a small desert mountain town of about 2,100 people. Named for the extra train engines once needed to push cargo up Price Canyon, the town spent decades as a bustling coal and railroad hub. Today, it offers a relaxed, low-key pace of life along Highway 6, roughly two hours southeast of Salt Lake City.

In recent years, artists and preservationists have revitalized historic Main Street, breathing new energy into its vintage storefronts with art galleries, local diners, and the Western Mining and Railroad Museum. Families have neighborhood schools right in town, including Sally Mauro Elementary and Helper Middle School, while the Price River walkway provides a scenic spot for evening strolls. With Nine Mile Canyon and the San Rafael Swell close by, and bigger-town conveniences just ten minutes down the road in Price, Helper combines small-town charm with incredible outdoor access.
