About Heltonville
Andrew Helton laid out Heltonville in 1845 after opening the settlement's first merchandise store before 1839. In its early years, merchants, three churches, and an Independent Order of Odd Fellows lodge served the Lawrence County town. Heltonville is also the hometown of Damon Bailey, whose limestone monument stands at State Road 58 and Diamond Road. Its clearest reference points are concrete ones: a nineteenth-century town plan, the limestone country around it, and a sports landmark at a highway junction.
