Henderson, NE

Henderson is a York County city in south-central Nebraska, surrounded by irrigated farm country and served by Heartland Community Schools. The 2020 census counted 1,080 residents. Two city parks, a golf course, aquatic center, baseball and softball complex, and the school campus give the town a practical recreation-and-school calendar. Main Street services and the surrounding farms connect Henderson to the wider York County road network.

The Fremont, Elkhorn and Missouri Valley Railroad reached Henderson in 1887, when the town was platted and named for pioneer settler David Henderson. That railroad and the Mennonite settlement that followed shaped the local story. On the north edge, Henderson Mennonite Heritage Park brings the past into the present with an Immigrant House replica, Country Mennonite Church, restored one-room schoolhouse, 1911 barn, farm buildings, and a depot filled with railroad artifacts. The park's General Store and school field trips keep it in use, while Heartland's primary, intermediate, and high schools sit in town. Henderson is a place where agriculture, school events, and a record of settlement still share the same few blocks.
