Water Street serves as Henderson's historic downtown, originally built during World War II to house workers for a nearby magnesium plant. Annual community traditions like the long-running St. Patrick's Day parade and weekend art festivals regularly fill the tree-lined sidewalks. It gives the city a distinct hometown feel that stands out from the newer master-planned suburbs around it.

Most of Henderson's residential growth unfolded through distinct master-planned communities. Established areas like Green Valley offer mature tree-lined streets and shopping centers, while neighborhoods like Anthem, Inspirada, and Cadence provide newer homes with modern parks, community pools, and scenic trail networks. Over to the east, Lake Las Vegas offers waterfront resort-style living around a private lake. Getting around the valley is straightforward, with the 215 Beltway and I-515 connecting residents quickly to the Las Vegas Strip, Harry Reid International Airport, and neighboring communities. Major corridors like Boulder Highway are also getting substantial upgrades to add dedicated bus lanes, wider sidewalks, and safer bike paths.

The local job market spans several thriving hubs across the city. West Henderson, near the Henderson Executive Airport, has become a booming center for logistics, tech, and light manufacturing, supported by training programs at the College of Southern Nevada. Healthcare is another major employer, with extensive hospital networks and medical campuses run by Touro University Nevada and Roseman University. Nevada State University provides undergraduate and graduate degrees from its growing campus in the foothills. Because major employers and campuses sit in different parts of the city, residents enjoy manageable commutes across several easy-to-reach commercial areas.

Outdoor recreation is woven directly into daily life here, with extensive park systems and protected desert landscapes right in your backyard. The paved Pittman Wash Trail cuts through Green Valley, giving runners, cyclists, and dog walkers miles of scenic, car-free pathways. For a quiet afternoon, the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve features tranquil walking paths surrounding open water ponds that attract hundreds of migratory desert species. Just south of the neighborhoods, the rugged Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area offers miles of hiking trails through volcanic canyons filled with ancient Native American petroglyphs. It all combines to give Henderson residents plenty of fresh air and quick access to nature just minutes from home.
