Henrieville, UT

Henrieville is a town in southern Garfield County, Utah, along Utah Scenic Byway 12. The first settlers arrived from nearby Cannonville in 1878, bringing the town into the agricultural corridor that follows Henrieville Creek and the road through the county. The community was named for James Henrie, an early Mormon settler and leader whose name also appears in the history of southern Utah's first settlements. Henrieville's position is easy to place on the regional map: it is about 15 miles southeast of Bryce Canyon City and 30 miles southwest of Escalante, with Route 12 running directly through town.

The town's small footprint sits inside a much larger landscape of farms, plateaus, washes, and red-rock country. Scenic Byway 12 makes Henrieville part of one of Utah's best-known road corridors, but the town itself remains a working Garfield County place with its own water system, homes, and local streets. The old settlement story still matters because it connects today's town to the families who came from Cannonville and to James Henrie's leadership in the region.
