Herreid, SD

Herreid is a city in Campbell County, South Dakota, United States. The 2020 census counted 416 residents. Herreid was under consideration to be named "Campa" for a time, however settlers considered other options. On August 26, 1901, Herreid was founded as a village. That mix gives Herreid a clear local shape within South Dakota, with older layers still visible in current places. The local scoop is a place whose streets, landmarks, and institutions keep its earlier story close to the present. However, the neighborhoods have expanded beyond this. U.S. Route 83 is the main thoroughfare, running from north to south through the town.
