Herrin, IL

Herrin is a welcoming Southern Illinois town of around 12,000 residents, tucked conveniently between Carbondale and Marion. The community grew rapidly during the coal boom, drawing a large wave of Italian immigrants whose influence still gives the town much of its distinct personality. Every Memorial Day weekend, folks gather downtown for HerrinFesta Italiana to celebrate that heritage with great food, live music, and family-friendly festivities. Today, you will find quiet residential streets, affordable neighborhoods, and a grounded, friendly atmosphere.

For everyday life, families are served by a local school district with campuses right in town spanning from preschool through high school. Getting around the region is easy, too. With Route 148 running through town and Route 13 just to the south, you are only about fifteen minutes from major shopping in Marion, college-town dining in Carbondale, or boating and hiking at Crab Orchard Lake. It offers a comfortable, laid-back home base with easy access to everything Southern Illinois has to offer.
